Perdita Felicien
Broadcast Journalist

As a retired world class athlete I spent more than a decade in front of the camera speaking to the media. I would give interviews and quotes, but gave little thought to what journalists did with the stories I was telling them.
In 2008 I was injured and missed competing at the Beijing Olympic Games. That created an opportunity for me to travel to China as a member of CBC's broadcast team. I was not sure how experiencing the Olympics from another perspective would feel, but in the end it changed how I viewed the media and storytelling.
I was forced to look at my friends, who happened to be fellow athletes and the journalists; who usually cover me, through a different lens. That challenge was a thrill and it left me determined to pursue a career in broadcast media after professional sport.
I've been to over 60 countries and believe the richness of global travel has shaped and balanced the way I view the world and people.
